Emilie

This little girl's name is Emilie and she is around two years of age. In late July, we had an emergency call from one of our local shelters saying that there was a Peke in urgent need of rescue with a severe eye injury. We pulled her and took her to our rescue vet. After close examination, Dr. Scott said her eye was so damaged and infected she would not be able to save it. She was set up for immediate surgery and the eye was removed. We have had so many unexpected vet bills that we need your help again! UPDATE, September 20, 2007: Emilie seemed to be having problems seeing so she saw the doggie eye specialist today. Sadly, it appears that she also had some infection in her left eye despite the antibiotics she was on and the retina in her remaining eye (left one) has been damaged. Emilie is now nearly totally blind in her remaining eye. She is on a short course of Prednisone to help alleviate any inflammation in her eye and especially her retina to salvage any sight she may have. She is a happy, well adjusted, little girl that is still learning how to navigate without sight. Emilie will remain with us as a foster in the Sanctuary Dog program until she learns some of the special things blind dogs need to know about navigating her house and yard and when taken on trips. UPDATE, September 30, 2007: Emilie has had her heartworm test, and unfortunately tested positive. This is a really sad situation considering all she has been through. She is beginning to adjust to her blindness and has started playing with some of the Pekes in her foster home. We will need to raise additional funds to have her heartworms treated. UPDATE, January 7, 2008: The financial support needed for Emilie's medical treatment has been met. She will be undergoing her heartworm treatment soon.
