Pekes Our Supporters Have Helped

Valentino, March 2008,
ready for adoption!

My name is Valentino and I'm 12 months old. Peke Rescue wondered how a young boy like me could have ended up in this shape! Due to my serious skin infection, I am going to have to stay at the vet's to have it treated. The estimate at this time for my treatment, boarding bill and medicines is $350.00. Please help me!

Update March 31, 2008:  Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that I feel like a new doggie now! The vet has gotten my skin condition under control and my hair is growing back in. I'm turning back into the handsome little pup I was meant to be. I'll be ready to be adopted around the middle of April.

Update June 2008:  I got adopted!  I got adopted!  Thanks to everyone that helped me I am now in a great home where I am loved and can love.

Wingo was 13 months old when he came to Houston Pekingese Rescue.  He had what our rescue vet said was the worse urinary infection ever seen in a Peke. Due to his urinary Ph being so high he had to be put on prescription CD canned food. The special diet and a strong antibiotic, Zeniquin, along with good home nursing care in his foster home brought him out of the woods and he recovered.

Our supporters covered Wingo's medical expenses.  After recovery he was adopted into a loving home and is now the "Top Dog."

Ling-Ling came to us weighing 6.4 pounds and should weigh about 8 pounds, covered in fleas, his tail and both ears were full of sand burrs.  Worse of it all, both eyes had been injured and he was found to be heartworm positive.

It was through the generosity of our supporters that the $500.00 needed to cover his medical expenses was donated and we were able to provide him with the medical care he so desperately needed.

Shanghai had pinched nostrils and could not get enough air. He needed surgery to enlarge his nostril openings.

The surgery cost $200.  Donations were sent and Shanghai had his surgery.  He has since become the active and happy boy he should have been from the beginning.  He can "run like the wind" now that he can get enough air into his lungs.

Bailey then -
when she first came to us

Bailey now -
healthy, happy, and pretty

Bailey came to us underweight and with a serious skin yeast infection.  She needed antibiotics, special shampoos, and a special diet to help her gain needed weight.  It's hard to understand how a dog that has gone through all she has can still be so loving, sweet and trusting.

The needed donations came in to cover her medications and special diet!

Wired for acupuncture

Mat Chu, about five to six years old, was so matted that the vet techs called him Mat. Then they said, "Hmm. this is a Chinese dog so we'll call him Mat Chu!" He had an old back injury and was not using one of his back legs correctly. He couldn't even stand for any length of time.  He needed a doggie chiropractor and acupuncture treatments.

His medical costs were in excess of $580.00.  Sponsors sent in the needed donations and Mat Chu received all the needed treatments.  He is now walking with only limited difficulty.  His vet has cleared him and he is now only receiving monthly maintenance treatments.    His foster parents are continuing with home physical therapy and hopefully, he will soon loose his limp!

Gizzy when she came to us

Gizzy now, a loving, happy Peke

Gizzy came to us from a large rescue situation.  Apparently, she was used solely for breeding and kept in a cage with a wire floor. If you look closely at her feet, especially her hind feet, you can see that her toes are permanently splayed from living all her life on a wire floor.  She is around six or seven years old had skin problems and was heartworm positive.

Gizzy is like a new Peke now. This was made possible by her wonderful foster family providing her with all the comforts of home and donations from our supporters.

Emilie came to us when a local shelter called saying that there was a Peke in urgent need of rescue with a severe eye injury. Her eye was so damaged and infected it could not be saved and the eye was removed.

Donations to cover the $275.00 needed for her surgery were sent by our supporters!

Lei Wu is a three year old male that weighs 8.6 pounds. He came to us with a heavy heavy heartworm positive and was started lifesaving heartworm treatment.  He is also receiving eye medication for dry eye and pigmented keratitis.

UPDATE, November 12, 2007:  Lei Wu's sight has improved to the point that he can now safely navigate in familiar areas and is playing like a normal Peke!  Chloe, a Japanese Chin, is his favorite playmate.  They play a rousing game of nip and run every chance they get and Lei Wu can see to play this game!  "Fun, fun, fun!"  This is Lei Wu's new look at life.  He can see to use the doggie door, gets along beautifully with the other rescues in his little pack, and actually looks around his yard and the house for favorite playmates and his foster parents.
