Ling Ling's Story NOTE: Ling Ling came to us in poor shape. He was treated for his eyes, skin, and, of course, the heartworms that he had and has been asopted! It is so sad to see such a sweet dog in such horrible condition - all due to things that are very preventable with proper care, nutrition, and routine preventative veterinary care. Unfortunately, many of the Pekingese dogs that come to us are in similar shape. The following was Ling Ling's post from the Pekes Needing Help page. You can read about other dogs that are in need on the Pekes Needing Help page. |

My name is Ling Ling. I'm only two years old, but I've had a tough life. My owner called her local shelter and said she didn't want me anymore and for them to come and get me and put me down. When they picked me up they could not believe what poor shape I was in. I only weighed 6.4 pounds and should weigh about 8 pounds. I was being kept outside and was covered in fleas. In fact after I was de-fleaed and bathed, the towel used to dry me had blood on it from all of the flea bites I had. My little tail and both ears were full of sand burrs. And the worst of it all, is the fact that both of my eyes had been injured. I have possibly lost all vision in my right eye and have a deep ulcer in my left eye. I've already been taken for my first trip to the doggie eye doctor. He gave my foster Mom and Dad some special ulcer mix drops to treat both of my eyes with. My eyes were so sensitive and hurt so much that I cried and cried at first when the medicine was put in. I'm also heartworm positive and will have treatment as soon as my overall health allows. I'm going to need help with the expensive doggie eye doctor's fees and also for my heartworm treatment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE, July 9, 2007: Hello, I just wanted to let everyone know how much better I feel. The eye doctor says my eye is coming along very well. I'm gaining weight, getting stronger and starting to have fun playing with the other rescues here. UPDATE, August 14, 2007: I am doing great! My eyes are well now. I did loose the sight in my right eye, but the old untreated ulcer I had and the infection I had in it when I came here is all better. My left eye that had an ulcer and infection is also all better! Now, my foster parents and our vet will decide exactly how to treat my heartworms. UPDATE, October 2007: I has been a long road, but Ling Ling is now healthy, happy, and has been adopted! |
